66. The railway era also arrives to Arévalo with the line Madrid-Avila-Valladolid economically boosting all region.   67. But the disaster of 1898 with the loss of Cuba and the Philippines together with the war in Africa will make this century one of the darkest ones in the history of Arévalo.
     
 
     
68. With the First World War, all of Spain resurges, including Arévalo, but social problems will affect this region, producing emigration to industrial areas.   69. In the Spanish Civil War, Ávila, Arévalo and Castilian towns will fall in the "national" side.
