54. In the war of the Spanish Sucession after the death of Carlos II, Arévalo will support Felipe V and its countryside will stage great Battles.   55. Felioe V himself triumphantly visited this village in 1710 giving reward and privileges to the town for its loyalty.
     
 
     
56. The Marquis of Ensenada, a minister of Fernando VI will favour this region with public works, bringing about an economic recovery.   57. In the XIXth century, French armies under commander Pedro Guerruty occupied the city. He will read the accupation act himself in 1808.
     
 
     
58. The Arevalenses rise in arms and in the Christmas of 1808 the repression is very hard, Napoleon's troops burn part of the city and kill many of its inhabitants.   59. One of the neighbours, Gregorio González, organised a guerrilla group which participated in many operations.
     
 
     
60. Like the night of the 14th of April, 1809, when the French commander with his troops were surprised and anihilated.   61. But the town will change hands between the French and the Spaniards with damages and destruction.
     
 
     
62. José Bonaparte will come with 14.000 soldiers to support the withdrawal of the French army from Arapiles.   63. The war is over, and after several years of hunger and diseases, new rivalries begin between royalists and constitutionalists, and Arévalo will teake part in them.
     
 
     
64.In 1823, an army corps is formed with royalist volunteers called "los peludos" [The hairy ones] because they were the only ones allowed to have a moustache.   65.Queen Isabel II visited this village in September, 1885. When she travels to Castile, León and Galicia.
